Theater Profile

The public theater in NYC was a Shakespeare workshop founded by Joseph Popp. This theater is an American theater which all country’s voices, rhythms, and cultures converge. This theater is under the artistic director Oskar Eustis, and the executive director Andrew D. Hamingson. The Public for short is a contemporary society where it produces musicals, plays and production of Shakespeare. The Public use to be an Astor library before it opened as it is now in 1967 on Lafayette Street. When the Public open up in the 1960s one of the shows that made a premiere was the musical of Hair. Now at the Public they have summer acting intensives where they train people on classical performers through the Shakespeare lab.
The public was created for all New Yorkers to come to and enjoy themselves. The public have lots of education programs to see and about 250,00n people every year attend this theater. The public mission is to achieve artistic excellence while it is developing an American theater that is accessible and relevant to all through its new plays, musicals and the classic. The public is a nontraditional casting of productions, education, artists from diverse back grounds, and is outreach to all students and audiences in New York City. Tickets prices for the public plays are about issues and interests of the surrounding community.

As I said before the public have and education and outreach program, Every summer they have a free Shakespeare workshop, where high school students and up can come and see the works of a back stage theater company.
Internships- the public offer internships program for individuals. There are different department for the internships administrative to creative. Taking internship you gain valuable mentorship and expert training, with academic education and practice. Being an intern at the public you will have hands on experience in the theater you will gain a lot of knowledge about theater on how they operate.

As you can that there is a lot of staff and they all play different roles in the public to keep it running smooth and so that we as a people can enjoy the hard work that they put into the theater.
The reason why I pick this theater to talk about is because it’s in New York City where I can just get up and take this little two hour trip from where I’m from and go visit this theater. The reason why this company appeals to me is because this theater is made to sever the public. Where the ticket are affordable for you and your family to go and get a feel of what a play or a musical is. Another reason why is because I like the different programs that they offer during the summer for the youth, so that they can gain some kind of knowledge of this art and maybe put it to some use in the future. I felt when I was reading about this Theater Company that they are not just out to make money but more so out to reach people so that they can appreciate this as an art.
