Design the set for a play
The play that ‘am going to design a set for is The Color Purple. The scene that I’m going to design the set for is the outdoors scene where there is an old plantation house. I would like for that house to be white but I want for it to have paint chipping off all over so it can give you that feel of a southern home. The next thing is that I would like to have old wooden floors on the porch and I want them to be a brown color. On set I would also have an old ivory color rocking chair because all southern homes have rocking chairs. For the rest of my set I would like to have three steps to walk up to, to get on the porch. Also on the windows I would have black window shutters. Then door on the house would be a swing door with mesh on it to keep out the bugs and to also get some air going through the house. There will be a plant hanging from the house just because I think that it will look nice on the set and goes with the feel of an old house down south. On the porch there will be a wooden table where there is a pitcher of lemonade and glasses on the table. By the rocking chair I would like a little foot rest so that you can sit back relax drink some ice cold lemonade on a hot summer day. I enjoy this part of the blog because get give me a feel a little bit of all that goes on into putting a play together, and that it takes a lot of time in work to just come up with ideas to design a set for a play.
Design the Lights for a play
The play that I ‘am design the lights for the play is The Wiz, The sconce that I ‘am talking about is when Dorothy the scarecrow, tin man, and lion head to Emerald city to see the Wiz, when they reach emerald city there are a bunch of people dancing around and singing a song that goes with the color theme that shines on emerald city every few minutes. The colors are green, red, and yellow. And every few minutes the Wiz makes an announcement to let the people in emerald city know that this color is dead here is the new color that is going on for the moment. But what I would like to do is to keep those colors but to also add some new colors in there and different design that can shines on the city and show the pattern of the design and have motion lights going on and have a monogram of the wiz face and the word emerald city going on. Also I would have a disco light because the people in Emerald City love to party and have a good time. I would have strobe lights flashing from time to time because once again this is a party town. The other colors that I would like to incorporate are blue because that is a rich and primer color. Also for the Wiz I would have a purple light that comes on because purple is the color of royalty and everybody in Emerald city seem to treat the Wiz as if he is a king. I think that the different element that I have put into this scene of the play was a good choice everything that I have describe goes with that part of the play and you can understand as to why I have choosing the different lights and colors for this scene.
Design Costumes for Play
The play that I ‘am designing a costumes for is the The Wiz. The way I will design the costumes is to put a more moderate up to date twist on the characters outfit but still make it so that you know who the character is. The scene that I’m design the costumes for is the one where Dorothy, the scarecrow, the tin man, and the Lion is going down the yellow brick road to see the wiz.
Starting with Dorothy I will still have her in a blue dress but I would like for it to be a little shorter and form fitting to bring out the curves in her body and also so I would like for it to stand out just like her shoes. Now for the shoes I would like for her to have a pair of silver glitter Christian Louboutin Pump so that she can look good going down the yellow brick road.
The scarecrow I would like for him to have on overall but with style. I would like them to be black with one strap hanging on his shoulder. Also I would like for him to have a nice straw hat on his head a tan color one at that. For his shoes since they are going to be doing a lot of walking I would like for him to have on a pair of high top chuck Taylors and a nice light white short sleeves shirt to put on with the overall
The tin man I would like for him to have on one of those silver work out sweat suit so that he can still look cool but u can still get the feel of who he is. The shoes I would like for him to have on a pair of silver converse and his look is complete.
The Lion just like the tin man I would like for him to have on a tan sweat suit for that youthful look some high top tan nikes. Also I would want him to have a tail hanging in the back of his sweat suite and for him to have on like tan gloves for his hands
Theater Profile
The public theater in NYC was a Shakespeare workshop founded by Joseph Popp. This theater is an American theater which all country’s voices, rhythms, and cultures converge. This theater is under the artistic director Oskar Eustis, and the executive director Andrew D. Hamingson. The Public for short is a contemporary society where it produces musicals, plays and production of Shakespeare. The Public use to be an Astor library before it opened as it is now in 1967 on Lafayette Street. When the Public open up in the 1960s one of the shows that made a premiere was the musical of Hair. Now at the Public they have summer acting intensives where they train people on classical performers through the Shakespeare lab.
The public was created for all New Yorkers to come to and enjoy themselves. The public have lots of education programs to see and about 250,00n people every year attend this theater. The public mission is to achieve artistic excellence while it is developing an American theater that is accessible and relevant to all through its new plays, musicals and the classic. The public is a nontraditional casting of productions, education, artists from diverse back grounds, and is outreach to all students and audiences in New York City. Tickets prices for the public plays are about issues and interests of the surrounding community.
As I said before the public have and education and outreach program, Every summer they have a free Shakespeare workshop, where high school students and up can come and see the works of a back stage theater company.
Internships- the public offer internships program for individuals. There are different department for the internships administrative to creative. Taking internship you gain valuable mentorship and expert training, with academic education and practice. Being an intern at the public you will have hands on experience in the theater you will gain a lot of knowledge about theater on how they operate.
The staff at the public is the ones who is be hide everything and make sure things run the way they are suppose to here are just some of the staff at the public.

As you can that there is a lot of staff and they all play different roles in the public to keep it running smooth and so that we as a people can enjoy the hard work that they put into the theater.
The reason why I pick this theater to talk about is because it’s in New York City where I can just get up and take this little two hour trip from where I’m from and go visit this theater. The reason why this company appeals to me is because this theater is made to sever the public. Where the ticket are affordable for you and your family to go and get a feel of what a play or a musical is. Another reason why is because I like the different programs that they offer during the summer for the youth, so that they can gain some kind of knowledge of this art and maybe put it to some use in the future. I felt when I was reading about this Theater Company that they are not just out to make money but more so out to reach people so that they can appreciate this as an art.

Broadway
When I was younger and I thought of Broadway I thought that it was boring and that only old people go there to watch boring plays but I was wrong. Going to New York and seeing all the lights and different theaters that are down there caught my eye, the first play I saw on Broadway was The Color Purple. Watching and seeing that play was so much fun for me to get a chance to be there and see a Broadway play and to hold and see a play bill was cool even thought before I came here I thought that it wasn’t going to be fun for me to watch. Watching The Color Purple was amazing I didn’t know that they would have all the different back ground and props and lights to make you feel like you were right down there in the hot south. The time I had went is when Fantasia Barrion was the main character Celie, she did such an awesome job that I didn’t think she would do and plus I saw an American Idol Fantasia Another Broadway musical that I have seen last summer was The Wiz. Based on the 1978 Movie which was directed by Sidney Lumet, The musical is an all black adaptation of the Tale we all know by heart. The story is about a young women name Dorothy, who got Caught up in a storm following after her dog Toto get sent into Munskinland where she Meet Miss One who told her to never take off her silver slippers, after Dorothy killed the Wicked witch of the east after that she meets the Scarecrow, The tin man and the Cowardly lion, where they are all going to Emerald city to go see the Wiz so that Dorothy Can get home, the Scarecrow can get a brain, the Tin man a heart and the lion some Courage But when they get there the Wiz wants Dorothy to go kill Evillene the wicked Witch of the west so that he can grant them there wish. Instead Evillene finds them and Try to kill them but instead Dorothy kills her. When they return back to Emerald city to let The Wiz knows they found out that he was nothing but a big phony. So after that Glinda The good witch of the north came to Dorothy and let her know that she had the power to Go home all alone if she just click her heels three times, and she did and Dorothy was Back home. This play interests me because they took the Wizard of Oz and put a new spin on it with all Black actors and this was something I always enjoy watching when I was a kid. And I also enjoy seeing the Broadway play of it to. If you go to New York right now there are so many plays that are going on right now. He is some of the most popular show that is play right now. Wicked, The Addams Family, Chicago, Memphis, Promises, Promises, Million Dollar Quartet, Come Flay Away, Everyday Rapture, Avenue Q, Blue Man Group, The Phantom of The Opera, A little Night Music, The Lion King, Billy Elliot and Mary Poppins. One of the longest Running plays that are on Broadway right now is the Lion King. Winner of six 1998 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Lion King pulses with an award winning score and innovative puppetry to bring the classic story of young royal heir Simba and the animals of the African Pride Lands to vivid life.
Relate theater to your life
Just like how theater relate to my major it also relate to my everyday life. I play different roles in my everyday life. I’m a student, a friend, a daughter, a niece, a cousin and a girlfriend. My role as a student is to attend Class every day, I make sure that I try and study and get my work done on time and Correct so that I can graduate on time. As a friend I make sure that I’m there for them No matter what, I enjoy this role the most because I can truly be myself and just let Everything hangout, with the daughter role I’m the only child on my mom side and my Dad side I’m the youngest. So everybody say that I’m spoiled and a brat I get whatever I Want and it is somewhat true so it has its ups and downs. My roles as a niece I’m Somewhat of the youngest, so just like my mom and dad my aunt and uncle give me Whatever I want they are like the fun ones to go to after your mom tells you that you Cannot do anything they take up for you. The cousin role I enjoy even though I have a Very big family and I’m not the oldest of most but I’m of some. It feels good because I’m Always the youngest and to have someone look up to you can be like you are so cool and I want to be just you. It’s a good feeling for them to look at you like a role model and I Try to be one. My role as a girlfriend, I make sure that I spend time with him and make Sure that I’m there for him no matter what and whatever he need I try and make sure me Reach them. Also be a good friend. Just like in theater there is different roles people play and in my life I play different roles. Sports are a big part of my life being active and staying in shape. When playing a sport you are performing for people and you have to make sure you are doing the task at hand right. You have to play together as a team and not to think that you’re the only one the team that can play. Everybody who is on the team have different roles that they have to do. That’s why you practice and rehearse everyday to prepare for that big performance which is your game. Just like in theater if you don’t practice and work together as a team then on the night of your performance you will mess up. I love to watch movies and theater relate to movies because a movie to me is nothing but a play that is taken in put on film to show the different technical aspect of that play. To me when I see a play that is turned into a movie I get happy because on like the theater stage you have more props and scenery to chose from. You can go from day and night, rain to sun and etc. when watching a play you basically look at the same back ground over and over again. Now some plays are more modern and the scene is good but it just nothing like putting it up on the big screen.I can go on and on about how theater relates to my life but this are just a few things I have written to show how theater plays a big part in my life without me even knowing.
Relate theater to your major
Well as we were learning throughout the course of theatrical language, practice technology and theory pervade all aspects of life, business and culture. I was trying to relate how this would come into play with being a sports nutritionist and to help people get into shape. When I was thinking about it sports nutritionist have to perform every day. One area where this would come into play is mapping out different meal plans for their patients. This can be the same as a director writing the play out for the actors. Another one for me is the training and working out process, getting them into the best shape they can possible be so that they can perform well and not mess up or get hurt, because they already have a game plan. The same as when actors have rehearsal throughout that time period to get themselves into shape and make sure they get there lines and everything together before the show starts. I also thought about like the costumes that the actors on stage where and how like the uniforms or dress attire for nutritionist is like sweats and shorts and tanks. This is important because, just like the actors in the performance must be dressed appropriately because you need to get a sense of who they are and what they are doing, throughout the show. Just like nutritionist you would like for them to look healthy and dress the part and look neat and clean, otherwise who would want you to help them out if you don’t look the part.
Also throughout this course I learned that theater is not just a play or dance, that it’s the way of life it can be anything. Theater is a way of expressing yourself, by using your everyday roles in life. It’s a way where you can be free and do just about whatever it is. In theater there are different roles that you can take part of and just like nutritionist there are different job duties that you have to perform everyday and everybody have to work together as a team in the health field. Just like a production team, you need a choreographer, director, stage manager and a lot more people to make sure everything is running smooth and that the job is getting done right and on time. When everything is put together you now see a performance that is created. I can relate theater to my other courses just as well because just like criminal justice it takes a lot of people to get the job done and make sure we as a people is safe. The criminal justice field is very broad in a way that you have different departments that people work in. for example you have FBI, police, judges, lawyers, DEA, probation officers and a whole lot more. They all work together and to keep the criminal justice system together and working smooth. Just as I said before about putting together a play or musical, there are a lot of different roles that everybody have but when you put them together you get the play or the musical working smooth and together.
In my future career I will remember that everything has a role and that it takes a whole team to make sure things run right. And that theater is so much more then what people thing. If you would take the time and sit there and just think about the different aspect of theater and how you can relate them to your life you will be shock. The same why I was when I really thought about it Because I never knew until this class how you can relate it to your life and that it’s not just about plays or musical.
